Christ came to fulfill the law by expiring the law. Christ came and didn’t do the law because it was something that had to be done because He is the law. All the law and prophets are a reflection of his personage, a portrait, His biography. So when Christ came to fulfill them, He took all the articles that were represented concepts of God broken down only for our understanding, these broken down concepts of himself He gathered and fulfilled in himself. In this way “all things are in Christ”. And then taking the Law unto himself, “gathering all things together in Christ. He took the thing that condemned us to the cross and there He took it out of the way and nailed the old Covenant law to the cross. He condemned sin in the flesh with all its articles feasts, practices, priests, prophets, and yes the city itself till “not one stone was left upon another. He put it all out of business. “All the law and the prophets were till John” The old way of doing business is over. Why? The law was given to kill. Why? To show that righteousness is not humanly possible. How many righteous people did law produce? “None, no not one” (Romans 3.10)
In Colossians 2 Paul explains it this way; 13 And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him having forgiven you all trespasses, 14 having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. (Being the old covenant law) And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross. 15 Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it.
The old Covenant law was the gospel of death that was added till faith comes, for us to live unto God and not a physical person or place but spirit and truth. The law in this way is antagonistic to the righteousness of faith. For those who try to do the law, reject the gift of righteousness. They reject Gods Son. Law was added till faith came and when the fullness of time came God sent His Son to redeem those under the old Covenant law. He came expiring and collecting artifacts of the things that were a shadow of things to come, fulfilled them, completed them and publicly nailed them to the cross.
The thing that killed us He took to Himself. “On Him was laid the iniquity of us all and by His stripes we are healed “. Including the condemnation and death of that law.
And since “God has already given us everything that pertains to life and godliness,” there is not one thing saved for a second coming Jesus. All things are new in Christ.
Paul said it like this “Do we then make void the law through faith? Certainly not! On the contrary, we establish the law.” We stand on it as our foundation we walk on. And John said it like this “But he who does the truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be clearly seen, that they have been done in God.” And “ Little children, let no one deceive you. He who practices righteousness is righteous, just as He is righteous. 8 He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, in order for Him to destroy the works of the devil. 9 Whoever has been born of God does not sin, for His seed remains in him; and he cannot sin, because he has been born of God. And of those born among women there is non greater than John the Baptist. But he who is least in the Kingdom are greater than these”. We are greater than the prophets receiving the accumulative of what they tried to convey. We are greater being born of God and not counted of the carnal seed of man. As Christ said about John and the like “I do not receive the testimony of man”. That testimony failed miserably. How many righteous? None. No not one.
