Hebrews 1.1 God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, 2 has in these last days spoken to us by His Son,”
God has had His final say through His Son. All we can do now is repeat it. This is the Gospel. The good news. To repeat the things He said.
The old way of the prophets has been superseded. Christ fulfilled the old style prophets. Out with the old, in with the new. The prophets were for the times past, meaning the old Covenant, these last days are for Gods Son. “These last days He has spoken by His son”. Enter the New Covenant.
In previous posts we explained the law is fulfilled, completed and expired. “The law was added till faith comes” and “when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth His Son born of a woman to redeem those born under the law”. It’s over. The Ministers of that law were the prophets. God used the prophets to speak to those who were under the first Covenant called the law. This is what they were trained for. The old covenant law. But because the law is done being in-efficacious because of those who lived by the law, there is none that please God “no not one is righteous” (Rom 3.10). The law was given “to make sin exceedingly sinful” and Christ takes away sin. So too with sin and the covenant of death called the law, He dealt it a final blow by nailing the law to the cross. The prophets have no Old Testament to serve. “For by that one act (the cross) He has perfected forever those who come to Him.” End of story. End of that Covenant and begin anew. New Covenant.
The law was a curse as it is written “cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”. And Christ did that for us. He took on our curse and crown of thorns. He neutralized the Mosaic law at the cross and exchanged it for eternal life. Blessing for the curse, life for death, sin as defined by the law is traded in for Gods righteousness by faith in Christ.
“Therefore do not neglect such a great salvation that was first spoken by the Lord (after the law and prophets were expired) and confirmed to those who heard it”. What Christ spoke supersedes the law. Why? Because all the law and the prophets were till Christ. The Son has spoken. He is the “Lo the volume of the book is written of Me” and Christ has fulfilled and expired the purpose of the law and the prophets that was added till faith comes. That kingdom expired and “the Kingdom of God is at hand”, that is for those willing to except the New law the New Land and the New Kingdom of The New Covenant with the New prophet and New Law giver which is Christ. He is all these things and more.
All things are new in Christ in this way, the new and living way that is diametrically opposite of the Old Covenant Law that was instituted with Moses to bring about condemnation and death associated with sin and all the sacrifices. To expose the walking dead and the whited sepulchers who are revisiting us even in our day. They were shelved by Christ who filled them to the Full to bring about eternal life, to as many as receive Him. Every testimony from the old was speaking of the Christ of the cross who is The New Testimony with the proof of His blood. God is not going to rebuild the old. Flesh and blood does not inherit the Kingdom of God In Christ, but the renewed mind of the spirit does. Even Paul said “if I rebuild the things that were destroyed, I make myself a transgressor. Why would you want to go back into that cave? That is what the law is. An empty tomb with only an inverted negative of Him who occupied it. The stone has been rolled away.
How many of the prophets did Christ fulfill and replace? All of them. God has spoken through His Son and need not say or do anything else. All the articles of the old served their purpose till Christ. Be it the laws of that culture. The language, the piece of land, the city, the buildings, ark, tabernacle, feasts, prophets and priests. Christ is all in all and through all” and need not an address or zip code.
We are no longer waiting for a Messiah in some carnal city some call modern day Israel, Jerusalem and the Jew. They are props of the old dead way. And to start up the sacrifices and feasts is blasphemous. We feast at the cross. Those are old fulfilled concepts whose reality is only in spirit and truth. You reject Christ by going back to the old. You misunderstand Gods Word and re-implement expired and fulfilled scripture. In your ignorance you resurrect bygone policies and re-inhabit the old, expired, condemned practices and place that will be met with the same demise as the Jews of old if rebuilt and re-established. The demise was Condemnation. Because “the day that is coming now is when you will not worship the Father in Jerusalem but spirit and truth”. (John 4.21-24). That verse is still in force. “Today is the day of salvation” in the “New and living way”. The old produced the dead. Today is the day and now is the time for the conclusion of the gospel.
The kingdom at hand was never retracted. They rejected the invisible chief cornerstone in that day and again today. A 2000 plus year time delay makes God and His Son a liar… or the purveyors of the 2nd coming, a saying not found once in scripture. I defy you to Find that saying in scripture once.
There is not another great act of God to fix you but the gospel which is “the power of God for salvation on all and to all who believe”. God has given us everything that pertains to life and godliness. He has given us every blessing in Christ. For Him to reappear as a man has no value. “We knew Christ once in the flesh but henceforth no more”.
The gospel is the conduit to convey these things. Our invisible imbecilic cord to our invisible inheritance of the invisible God we acquire by faith. Which is our invisible response to the invisible God. That is right. From faith to faith. “While we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary (not eternal), but the things which are not seen are eternal” (2 Cor 4.18). From “God who gives life to the dead and calls those things that do not exist as though they do” (Rom 4.17). And you know what? They do even if you don’t see it which is why you have to believe it. It arrives no other way but by faith. From faith to faith as by the spirit. “We look to the city whose builder and maker is God built of His invisible composition in His time frame called eternity, and not one on earth subjected to the temporary days of 24 hour increments. For God is light and in Him is no darkness at all. No nights no shadow of turning.
And so we who accept this are the elect. The rest are hardened (Rom 11.7. Yes, even in and especially in our day there is a lot of hard headed deniers. But God has spoken. End of story. End of history, His-story.
For us who are in Christ, “the works are finished from the foundations of the world”. To this we enter in. Old things have past away, all things have become new in this manner period. We who are mature in faith have exercised our senses to separate good from evil, old and new. The faith that moves mountains moved Sinai as far as the east from the west, with all the law, feasts, articles, priests and prophets. Condemnation is a product of sin defined by the Old Testament Law. But there is no condemnation to those who are in Christ who walk not by the mandates of the law, but of the spirit. For the law of the spirit of life in Christ has set me free from the law of sin and death.” That is why he who sins has neither seen Him or known Him. (1John 3.6) Those under the old reject the new.
So now “there is one mediator (not many prophets) between God and man the man Christ Jesus”. He is the (sole) mediator (not the prophets , messengers or angels) of a better Covenant founded on better promises. The New Covenant. And because there is only “one mediator between God and man the man Christ Jesus”. Why? Because He is the only begotten of the Father, being uniquely God and man, this qualifies Him to do so. For He has not put the age to come (New Covenant) of which we speak in subjection to the prophets, the old messengers or angels. (Hebrews 2.1)
So the prophets are now unnecessary. We who are least in the Kingdom are greater than John. And for that manner any and all the prophets because our Kingdom is not from here. They were trained in the law to speak to carnal man, on behalf of those under the law. Because “the law made nothing perfect, “but the bringing in of a better hope did” (past tense). The law was added till faith came and in the fullness of time God sent forth His Son born from a woman to redeem those born under jurisdiction of the law and regulated by the prophets. Without that law, the prophets have nothing to say of any authority to us of the new and living way today. Because they spoke old covenant nomenclature to an expired system of bygone days. God only spoke to the people in parables and “without a parable spake He not t the people”. The law and the prophets were The parables. They were visible toys teaching invisible principles, places and things which is why Israel was called children over 1000 times in the Old Covenant. They never transfigured those objects into the spirit. Moses was instructed to “make all things according to the pattern you saw on the mountain”. The place he encountered the invisible God Head.
“All the law and the prophets were till John”. That is it. The prophets spoke condemnation, sin and judgement. Without the law there is no condemnation. The assembly line of death was broken with the carnal appearing of Gods Son. Man can speak to men but because Christ is God and man he is the only one uniquely qualified to be the mediator of “the New Covenant now in force”. Something none of His predecessors could do.
“Christ appeared and took away the first to establish the second”. “He condemned the covenant of sin in the flesh”. That is why “their is no condemnation to those who walk not in the old letter of the law but the law of the spirit”. (Romans 8) The old wine is not better. One covenant replaces another and the messengers of the first have no voice in the New Covenant now in force with the shedding of the blood of Christ.
Even as the Lord said to Moses “I will raise up for them a Prophet like you from among their brethren, and will put My words in His mouth, and He shall speak to them ALL that I command Him.” Christ is that prophet who “speaks All THINGS” and needs no help. Even Moses knew the weakness of his contemporaries. Christ does not receive the testimony of men. He is the one that precedes and supersedes the law that was added till faith came. The prophets spoke to carnal man in a linear fashion of future events to appear to the human eyes laid out on a calendar which culminates with the expectation of a visual king in an earthen city for which they were condemned for. Even John in prison sent asking are you the coming one or do we seek another? And with these words condemning himself and the purpose of the prophets born of women. For this John was beheaded. The prophets are no longer the head of the body. Christ is. He is our mind and mouth.
Paul quotes his new source here “11 But I make known to you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached by me is not according to man. 12 For I neither received it from man, nor was I taught it, but it came through the revelation of Jesus Christ.” Paul had to throw away what he knew as a Jew that alleged him to the brood of vipers.
And Paul again. For if I build again those things which I destroyed, I make myself a transgressor. (old covenant practices) 19 For I through the law died to the law that I might live to God. 20 I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me. 21 I do not set aside the grace of God (to re-implement law); for if righteousness comes through the law, then Christ died in vain.” And we will add; if bringing about the old law, prophets, practises, principles and places for one last hoorah called the 2nd coming pleases God, in His hypocrisy He condemned, fulfilled and put out of business the last culture that did that as useless. What value would it be to rebuild that? Wouldn’t He owe the culture of old an apology?
The old way of the prophets has been superseded. Christ fulfilled the old style prophets. Out with the old, in with the new. The prophets were for the times past, these last days are for Gods Son. And His words have gone out to the end of the ages. It is called the Gospel.
The next speaking of the Son? Hebrews 12. 25 See that you do not refuse Him who speaks. For if they did not escape who refused Him who spoke on earth, much more shall we not escape if we turn away from Him who speaks from heaven, 26 whose voice then shook the earth; but now He has promised, saying, “Yet once more I shake[h] not only the earth, but also heaven.”[i] 27 Now this, “Yet once more,” indicates the removal of those things that are being shaken, as of things that are made, that the things which cannot be shaken may remain.” To this 2 Peter agrees; 10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up.[c] 11 Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, 12 looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be dissolved, being on fire, and the elements will melt with fervent heat?
No thousand year reign. No earthly city, articles, feasts or any other relics of old. Those are parables, shadows and images for instructive purposes only to understand the invisible. That is the last thing left to say. No other great works have been left to be done or redone. The Son is seated waiting for the last of the elect. At the cross He said “it is finished”. Through that one act we overcome all obstacles. The next observable event? The shaking and the fervent heat. And the destruction of wicked men
Amen
